DRAMA AND FILM Classes
Intro to Drama (grades 9-12--may take once)
A great way to end your day! We start out with the basics--playing games and getting to know each other. We get to create a pantomime (lots of acting, no words to memorize!), learn how to be confident reading a short piece (storytime!), play improvisation games, create a person from scratch, and act out your favorite short scene from a movie or play! Perfect for those that like to be creative, get off their seat and do things. You can also work on building up your confidence in front of people nice and slow and easy, too!
Note: This course does not get into after-school plays. That is a separate extracurricular activity! However, this class sets you up for doing that if you are interested! See Mrs. Brant for more information about Z Center Stage Theater Company.
History of American Film (grades 9-12--may take once)
Movies. Hollywood. Lights, camera, action! We all love ourselves some films, right? Learn about how the ability to tell stories through this powerful medium was born--mostly through a bunch of happy accidents! Then, move up through the ages as we watch movies and study how the technology and the styles changed over time. Includes a stop motion project so you get a taste of filmmaking yourself!
Drama 2: Acting and Directing (grades 9-12. Should have successfully completed Intro Drama before taking)
Want that next-level experience? This class picks up where Intro Drama left off! We get to do group projects like puppetry, scene studies, and even some lights and sound work as we gain skills in group acting, some direction/scene planning, and showing off our work to each other! It's full of games and opportunities to grow your skills! (offered every other year)
Drama 2: Technical Theater (grades 9-12. Should take Intro Drama first/or with instructor approval)
Get a different angle on the theater biz by learning about all of the different areas that help make a production happen! We will study set design and some basic construction, light design, sound design, and learn about props and costumes and maybe even a bit of makeup. Prepare to be hands-on and creative.
