How to be a part of Z Center Stage!

Watch for the fall show announcement at the BACK IN ACTION NIGHT ON AUGUST 20 AT 7 pm!
How to be a part of Z Center Stage!

We do two shows a year, one in November and one in May.   The fall show is usually a non-musical play, while the spring is usually a musical.

Both shows need actors and technical crew members.   The show determines the cast size and number of crew members, but there is usually a place for you if you want to a part of the drama family!

We will have a Back In Action Night on August 20 at 7 pm in the ZHS Performing Arts Center for all those interested in being a part of Z Center Stage and their family!   You can find out how to be a part of ZCSTC, how to letter in drama for the year, and what the fall show will be!

To audition for the fall play, you need to learn a short monologue scene and perform it for the directors during auditions on September 9-10, 2024 after school.  More info on this will be provided at the first meetings of the year.  Casting is dependent on fit for the role, academic eligibility, preparedness, poise, and volume.  Roles are cast for the gender required by the playwright, as per licensing rules.

To audition for the spring musical, you need to prepare a short monologue and sing provided parts of audition songs for the directors. On the second day of auditions, you do a short dance sequence (taught at the audition) for choreography and perform your prepared monologue.  Casting is dependent on fit for the role, singing ability, academic eligibility, preparedness, poise, and volume. Roles are cast for the gender required by the playwright, as per licensing rules.

To be a part of the tech crew, you must apply for the job and be interviewed by the directors for your desired position.  Pre Production Crews are for Construction, Properties, and Costumes.  Crew members that are dependable, trained/trainable for specific positions, available, and eligible will be placed in Running Crew positions.  The Running Crew runs the production behind the scenes, including stage and set management, set crew, curtain, props management and crew, costumes assistance, lights computer, sound computer, and follow spot operators.

If you participate in both productions and are active as a Company member all year, you may apply and earn your Fine Arts chenille letter and drama pin.   If you are in a sport for one play and participate in the other play, you can still earn your letter IF you usher, help with set work days, advertise, and come to meetings throughout the year.  You can denote these activities on your application for a letter.   If you participate in one play but not all year, you are not eligible for a letter, but you will be honored at the Annual Fine Arts Awards on June 3, 2025!

The show--there are lots of versions on You Tube, but this is the one we did in 2013.
Z Center Stage 2013
A musical perfect for the whole family, Seussical takes us into the world of Dr. Seuss, where we revisit beloved characters including The Cat in the Hat, Horton the Elephant, Gertrude McFuzz, Lazy Mayzie, and JoJo. The Cat in the Hat guides us into The Jungle of Nool where we see Horton, the kind-hearted elephant who discovers a speck of dust containing Whoville. He meets JoJo, a Who child sent to military school for thinking too many “thinks.” Horton decides he must protect the speck of dust on a nearby clover, while at the same time protecting an abandoned egg left to his care by the lazy Mayzie la Bird. Horton tries to convince the other animals in The Jungle of the existence of the Whos, but he is ridiculed and put on trial for insanity. Only his loyal neighbor, Gertrude McFuzz, never loses faith in him. Eventually, the two fall in love. Now one of the most widely produced musicals in the country, Seussical weaves a story of friendship, loyalty, and love. Despite all odds, Horton and Gertrude band together to save the Whos, free Horton, and restore peace and unity to the Jungle of Nool. Charming Seussical teaches us the power of being unique, and the importance of fighting for your beliefs.
